StrategEQ blue dragon emerging through blue smoke

Why StrategEQ?

People support should grow with the business

Businesses rarely need more people, processes, policies, systems, infrastructure or dedicated HR headcount simply because those things are associated with a growing company.

What a five-person company needs is different from what a 50-person company needs. And what works at 50 will not necessarily work at 200.

The answer is not to recreate the infrastructure of a much larger company too early. It is to understand what the business needs now, what is likely to change next and put in place People support that is proportionate, commercially sensible and able to evolve.

Enough structure to create clarity and consistency.

Not so much that the company loses pace, flexibility or money building infrastructure it does not yet need.

That is where StrategEQ comes in.

Kerry Chapman, Founder

Kerry Chapman, Founder of StrategEQ Consulting

I have spent more than twenty years working across technology, growth, transformation and scaling businesses, supporting founders, boards, executive teams, People leaders and managers as their organisations become bigger, faster and more complex.

My experience stretches across the full People agenda, from establishing the fundamentals through to People strategy, organisational change, leadership, performance, talent, reward, employee relations and the challenges that come with growth and transformation.

That breadth matters.

A recruitment problem may actually be a workforce-planning problem.

A performance problem may be a leadership problem.

A retention problem may begin with reward, management, structure or expectations.

And something that looks like an HR problem may not require an HR solution at all.

My role is to understand the business context, ask the questions that need asking and help determine what will genuinely make a difference.

StrategEQ can then provide support through Fractional & Interim People Leadership, Project & Reactive Support, or Advisory, depending on what the business actually requires.

Where IQ Meets EQ

StrategEQ was built around a simple principle.

Good People decisions require both.

Intelligence brings commercial thinking, evidence, structure, challenge, financial awareness and strategic judgement.

Emotional intelligence brings an understanding of people, behaviour, leadership, relationships, communication and the human impact of change.

Commercial rigour without understanding people does not work particularly well.

Neither does empathy without commercial judgement.

The strongest decisions recognise both.

That is the thinking behind the name:

StrategEQ.

Strategy, sharpened by EQ.

Why a Dragon?

The dragon represents much of what StrategEQ is intended to bring to the companies we work with.

  • Perspective.
  • Strength.
  • Resilience.
  • Protection when it is needed.
  • The confidence to challenge.
  • And the judgement to know when not to.

NOT EVERY SITUATION NEEDS FIRE.

Sometimes the right answer is to observe, understand, challenge an assumption, change direction or simply create enough clarity for other people to move forward.

You’ll notice that the dragon appears differently throughout StrategEQ. The environment changes, and the response should change with it. The same is true of people strategy.
